    Historical Context

The longsword (in German, the Langschwert. In Italian, the spada lunga) emerged in fourteenth century Europe as the response to plate armour. Two handed, around 110 to 140cm long, requiring formal training, the weapon was the centrepiece of the late medieval warrior's discipline. The fencing manuals of Johannes Liechtenauer (c. 1389), Fiore dei Liberi (c. 1410), and Hans Talhoffer (c. 1450) survive as the foundational texts of Western swordsmanship.

By the Renaissance, the longsword had given way to the rapier and the smallsword in civilian wear, but it remained the symbol of knightly identity. Tomb effigies across Europe show knights with their longswords laid down their length. The sword as the wearer's defining tool.

    Symbolic Meaning

The longsword. The Zweihänder. Conviction. The vertical blade. The knight's pendant.

The longsword, in late medieval and Renaissance Europe, was the weapon of trained warriors. Too long to draw quickly, too heavy to be casual, requiring years of Kunst des Fechtens (the German art of swordsmanship) to wield.

To wear the longsword is to wear the figure of disciplined commitment.

    Wearers Intention

For the resolute. A long sword, point down, worn from the throat. The figure is of conviction held visibly. The sword, in the wearer's lineage, is the oldest symbol of resolve we have.

    Care Guide

To maintain the beauty of your 24-karat Gold-plated necklace, clean it gently with a soft cloth after each wear to remove oils and dirt. Avoid contact with harsh chemicals, water, and abrasives, and store it in a dry place away from direct sunlight. Remove the necklace before activities like swimming or exercising, and periodically inspect it for signs of wear.
