The Tide Ring
Historical context

The tide. From the Old English tid, meaning time. Before it was a sea-word it was a time-word. Eventide. Whitsuntide. Yuletide. The hour you live in.

Sailors and saints both organised their lives by it. Newton wrote the equations. Mothers know it without equations. The Tide borrows this old word for what keeps returning whether you watch it or not.

Symbolic meaning

The marquise points inward, toward the wearer, rather than out toward an observer. The orientation is the meaning.

The tide does not move for us. It moves on its own. To wear this ring pointed at yourself is to acknowledge what you keep returning to, on its own terms, again.

Wearer's intention

For those who have come back to themselves, again, and intend to keep doing it. For the ones whose recovery is not a one-time event but an ongoing practice.

For people who have learned that the most important work is the work of return.

Materials

18k Gold Vermeil waved band. Three marquise-cut moissanite's set asymmetrically across the band.

Sitting a little unevenly the way small boats sit on moving water, not in a row but scattered where the swell left them. The marquise cut is among the most demanding to set well. The Tide is finished by hand.

Care guide

Remove before sleep, exercise, and showering.

For the gold:
Clean with warm water and mild soap. Polish with a soft cloth.

For the marquise tips:
The pointed ends of the marquise are the most fragile part of the cut. Treat gently and avoid knocking the stones.

General:
Store flat in a soft pouch.

Each piece is finished by hand. Made to order. Held by the maker before it is held by you.
