The Vigil
Historical context

The Vigil. From vigilia, the Roman watch. A unit of time and a duty both. Vestal virgins kept the eternal flame through their night watches. Mothers have kept theirs since before the word existed.

The Vigil belongs to a long tradition of objects that mark the act of staying awake while others sleep. A small piece of evidence that the watcher was there.

Symbolic meaning

To keep vigil is to choose presence in the dark. The ring's low setting, close to the finger, mirrors that choice.

Nothing raised. Nothing announced. Just a steady mark of being there.

Wearer's intention

For watchers and keepers. For the parents who learned which floorboard creaks at three in the morning. For caregivers of any kind.

For those whose love is most felt in the hours nobody sees.

Materials

18k Gold Vermeil band, fine and plain. Single upright marquise-cut moissanite held in a claw setting at the two tips.

Smaller scattered accent stones near the centre of the band, hand-set, the stardust held still around the kept flame.

Care guide

Remove before sleep, exercise, and showering.

For the gold:
Clean with warm water and mild soap. Polish with a soft cloth.

For the stone:
The upright marquise tips are the most fragile part of the cut. Treat gently and avoid hard knocks.

General:
Store in a soft pouch. The Vigil is built for daily wear but rests well between uses.

Each piece is finished by hand. Made to order. Held by the maker before it is held by you.
